Gas prices are simply ridiculous. Companies have conditioned all of us to just follow along and pay as the prices increase. Maybe you'll grumble and maybe you'll talk to a neighbor but in the end you will buy the gasoline -- and this is what the gasoline companies count on us doing each time they raise prices.
If we simply organize a don't drive on this day then the companies will wait all of us out. So what do we do? An email I received suggested a great way.
The top two gasoline companies should be targeted. Simply do not purchase gasoline from Mobile and Exxon. Eventually the protest from those two companies will cause them to react to the consumers. They will be forced to lower gasoline prices.
Do you really want to pay $3.00 per gallon? Then don't change what you do each day. Keep buying the gasoline. However, if you want to send a message then pass along this idea. Let's stop these thieves from harming our economy and our pocketbooks.
Enough said.
Posted by LPH at March 11, 2004 02:47 PM | TrackBackwell, to be frank, if you look at the actual prices for gasoline, exxon sells gas to consumers at a much more reasonable price than shell, or even arco. also, there's a nice gas station (independent) on the corner of national and castle heights (about 6 blocks from hamilton high school) that sells gas at 2.07 a gallon. just a suggestion.
Posted by: anon on March 15, 2004 07:03 PMBe frank all you want - even a mary or joan - but you must be joking, right?
#2.07 price is fine? A year ago that would have been laughable. But now it is acceptable?
You must not drive or care about prices. And in a few months when the price is $3 then you can't complain - oh wait - maybe you'll tell me a few miles from hamilton is a great independent gas station ... which offers it for $2.99 and 9/10. Gesh. It's not $3.
:P
Posted by: LPH on March 15, 2004 07:23 PMno need to be rude, sir..or condescending for that matter. i was just offering you some friendly advice. 2.07 is still cheaper than 2.45, and the extra 40 cents can make a difference. and i do drive, just so you know. i do care about prices. but realistically there isnt much i can do about it.
Posted by: anon on March 16, 2004 09:27 PMI disagree. There are plenty of things that can be done and one is listed in the post that you commented on - don't buy gasoline from the two major companies. And the joke is regarding the use of your opening remark about being Frank. Sorry you missed it or that it was too harsh for you to see it as a joke. With lightness in your heart, maybe you can re-read my post and have a little giggle... or maybe not. My humor can miss the boat at times ;)
Posted by: LPH on March 17, 2004 05:25 AMSomebody told me one day that the 9/10 in gas prices (in the US; e.g., $ 1.77 9/10) means that the price is for 9/10th of a gallon; not a whole gallon. Is this true? Or does $ 1.77 9/10 mean $ 1.779 / gallon? Thanks!

hmm...
That should solve the gas price crisis.
Please do not threaten anyone
Agree with me ?
Posted by: Anon on March 28, 2004 09:32 PMExxon reported its profits last year about 28 Billion dollars, I believe, that was their NET profit, that DOUBLED the 2002 profits.
The chairman of the board was awarded 21.8 MILLION dollars for his efforts at getting prices up on the gas, Mobil and Exxon are the same company , so you wouldn't be targeting two oil companies, but one.
The 9/10 is part of the price the pumps are gauged at a gallon.
Mass emailing that suggestion won't work, people will just delete them.
What we need is a mass protest
well i for one think that we should quit buying from those damn ragheads and go get our oil from alaska and screw the tree huggin hippies up there. how should we go about gettin a mass protest going. i would damn sure participate it that one. if every truck in the whole country did what those 3 did the other day they would bring the prices down quick fast and in a hurry...
Posted by: butch on May 6, 2004 02:04 PMLet me first as a Republican, I WILL NOT vote for Bush OR Kerry. Bush can kiss his red-neck ass good-bye with the Iraq fiasco, and worse, the gas prices. If someone can give me more information on a possible gas price protest, I will do it. I agree, stay well away from Mobil and Exxon stations (I know they are the same company.) A message has to be sent to these greedy hogs. This will one day come back and haunt them. I GUARANTEE IT!

I want to know how to make my voice heard. We cant do a thing if we all say that we cant do thing. On the other handif we all say that we will do something and show that there are millions of people that are being ripped off and willing to do something about it, I believe we can AT THE LEAST be able to startle politicians and huge oil companies. We are like ants, we are being stepped on by the big guys and they know we are all too stupid to realize that we outnumber them by millions. We go about our lives mindlessly working for another dollar that just ends up in the hands of the FEW that rule this world. Someone help me. How can you turn tired, huddled masses into strong, organized masses that will actually open some eyes?
Posted by: just 1 on May 11, 2004 11:30 AMHow can we form a mass protest. I mean MASS. What would we have to do and how can we make millions aware of it? I would like to wake up every body possible.
