Mandrake Linux 9.1 Download Edition

I finally downloaded Mandrake Linux 9.1 after several months of this edition being available. ProZilla was used to pull the three CD distribution from a mirror ftp site.

Installation was done along side a Windows XP partition. XFree 4.3 was installed, using KDE as the main desktop environment. GNOME and IceWM are also available. This system sits as a 1600 x 1200 desktop.

The MCC is much more smooth than previous versions. An attempt was made to copy fonts from the Window's partition via the Mandrake Control Center. However, the fonts failed to show up in the list. I'll revisit this issue later.

It is planned to spend more time today (Monday) with this distribution. I also want to complete the Xandros desktop 1.0 review. It has been sitting idle for quite some time.

Update: Because of a security advisory, I updated Mozilla 1.3 to 1.3.1 via MandrakeUpdate. The Tab browser extension and calendar were installed after changing the owner of /usr/lib/mozilla-1.3.1 to me rather than root. Preferences were also updated to use the group feature of tabs.
