DevConnections was buzzing in Vegas. On Sunday I sat in on the all-day Tablet PC workshop. There was lots of great info here--particularly about the real-time stylus. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Monday was a work day. Lora and I helped out in the Tablet PC lab. The actual plan was for attendees to walk through a 45-minute lab and then at the end receive a book on Tablet development.
It turns out though that Lora and I often took the opportunity to introduce the Tablet to people. Many were interested in ways that they might use a Tablet--either at work or home.
There were a few skeptics and it was extra rewarding to spend time with them and start seeing their enthusiasm pick up for the Tablet once they really understood what it was all about. One person--a self-identified "suit" was even ready to pay cash for a Tablet right then. Don't get me wrong though, we weren't selling anything. We were just talking about Tablets, just as we would with our friends and family.
I also explained quite often how I use my Tablet as a developer--for taking notes, block diagramming ideas, marking up screenshots, and sketching out data structures while I'm debugging. I really, really need to write something up about this.
Many of the conversations reinforced my belief that most people are interested in how they can use Tablets as individuals. They don't look at Tablets and envision large deployments or process changes--although some did. Most were simply interested in how they could use a Tablet at work to be more productive and in what ways they could enjoy a Tablet at home.
