Tim Draper would like you to post your billion dollar idea here.
In a transparent publicity stunt with VidiTel and Santa Cruz Networks (Draper Fisher Jurvetson investments), Tim Draper is putting together an online public pitch forum/contest.
I guess they announced this contest at BloggerCon. Funny, the apparent "community-sensitive" VidiCon even created a blog for themselves. Of course, it only has two posts: one announcing the blog itself and one announcing the fact that they would be announcing the Tim Draper Billion Dollar Idea Contest. Why does all of this smell of cheap publicity? There are much better ways to have done all this. Something's missing.
Creating an online public pitch forum to a VC is kind of interesting. It runs counter to much of the secretive nature of the VC world that I know. It's kind of like the university inspired entreprenuerial meetings sprinkled around the country, but on an online scale--and unfortunately lacking the valuable feedback they try to provide.
Where's Guy Kawaski when you need him?

Posted by: Julie on February 7, 2004 08:15 AMI can understand your skepticism BUT as the recipient of funding based on having been chosen as one of only 11 submnissions that was provided the opportunity to do a 5 minute web cam pitch to Tim, I can only say that as Entrepreneurs it's our job to leverage whatever vehicle we can to catch the attention of someone like Tim and DFJ.
What you believe you see. In my case I saw a chance to get funded and as a result did.
