Tablet PC ideas

I just have to say about the last post: It's amazing to be able to come up with wacky ideas like Conference Bots, sketch the idea out on a Tablet PC, and in a matter of minutes post it up to the Internet.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I could have used paper. But I didn't. I can't draw well--so I do a lot of deleting. You probably do the same when typing: You hit the backspace just about as much as you type new characters. Same goes here. I can scribble something, delete a stroke, delete a few pixels, and redraw until I get something close to looking OK. And when I'm done the end product doesn't look like I've erased half the thickness of the sheet away. And I didn't have to scan anything. Could I have used a CAD program? Sure. But I don't have one. Could I have used Photoshop or Illustrator? Probably. But I just wanted something rough and fast. It would take me hours to figure out how to draw what I had in mind--the way I visualized it--within Photoshop. With Journal I just sketched the idea out.

All engineers should have Tablet PCs.

I'm guessing that now that everyone is used to the spit and polish that office suites and Photoshop gives, it's hard for them to accept hand drawn images again. I scrawled some ideas for web page design in Journal and used them in an informal session with business users. Two days later I came in with some updated pages and the comment I received was "you didn't draw any did you?" But that comment was from a rude IBM consultant, probably jealous. I'll continue to use them.
