Messenger 6 Preview is great. It has some significant missing pieces (copy/paste and no horizontal scrollbar or resizing of received inked messages), but it is very useful in its current form for us Tablet PCers.
One "down-the-road" feature I'd like to see is an optional toolbar that shows five or so of the most commonly used emoticons or short words (such as "y" and "k"). Here's a mockup:

Bryan wants the "most common/last used" emoticons on the main toolbar, but I guess that's a function of the toolbar layout manager and how much real estate there is to work with.
When I'm using the mouse or pen (on the Tablet PC), I like short cuts like this. I'm lazy.
Posted by Loren at June 19, 2003 10:55 AMIt's funny, because I have been using an internal preview of Messenger 6 for a couple weeks now and didn't use emoticons once. Rather, I enjoyed drawing them.
(Maybe if the emoticons in Messenger looked like ink/drawings instead of icons, they would blend better in ink messages...)
I can't draw very well, so some are too difficult/long to mimic, but the most common ones are ok.
Maybe these should be called empathinks or emotigrams ;-)
I wonder whether new glyphs will appear with ink messenging. So far, the only new one I use is "feeling sleepy".
Cheers
