MSN Messenger 6 download available today

Scoble wants to show off his Tablet PC--you'll need the new Microsoft MSN Messenger 6 Preview download, which Microsoft is making available today.

With Messenger 6 "Users can send handwritten 'inked' messages from a Tablet PC to any other contact that is using MSN Messenger 6." Fantastic.

This sounds better than I thought it would be. I was wondering if Messenger 6 was going to require a Tablet PC on each end for ink to work. This sounds like it doesn't.

A Microsoft press release says: "MSN Messenger 6 [will be] available beginning today at 11 a.m. PDT from http://www.msnmessenger-download.com/Preview/default.aspx."

OK. My alarm is set for 11.

This is going to change the way I use my Tablet PC. I can't wait.

Yes the Ink in Messenger v6 is cool, although very simple.

One thing it handles nicely is that as soon as you connect to an older client, it'll downgrade the ink input to an ink recognizer.

One thing it doesn't handle well is that ink is apparently sent as an image. So the person you are sending ink to needs to have a large enough Messenger window to see the whole image.
I understand resizing and reflowing have their shares of problems too, so there is no obvious solution to this problem. But it is a problem.

Yep, this has the feel of a 1.0 product's support for Ink, but from what I've seen, Messenger 6 is going in the right direction.

Hey Loren if you don't mind another Softie on your IM list, I'd love to do some Ink Messenging as well. So far Scoble is the only person I have to chat with ;)
