Ima Hogg

Did you know there was a really person named Ima
Hogg?

Yep, she was real and died in 1975.

The name Ima came from the heroine of a Civil War poem written by her uncle Thomas Elisha. Her dad was the governor of Texas in the late 1800s. His name was James Stephen Hogg.

But, unlike the popular belief, there was not a daughter named Ura. Though, having Ura makes a great story! Instead, Ima had three brothers.

Miss Ima was extremely famous and spent most of her life giving back to the Texas area. She was very generous. She was also lucky enough to have been born in a wealthy family!

The reason the name Ima Hogg is so funny is because it sounds like I'm a Hogg.

What is a Griffin?

Do you guys know what a Griffin is?

JK Rowling states in Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them that the Griffin:

"...originated in Greece and has the front legs and head of a giant eagle, but the body and hind legs of a lion. Like sphinxes (see page 39), griffins are often employed by wizards to guard treasure. Though griffins are fierce, a handful of skilled wizards have been known to befriend one. Griffins feed on raw meat."

Another site says that:

"The griffin is a mythical creature with the face, beak, talons and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. At times, it is portrayed with a long snake-like tail. In some traditions, only the female has wings. Its nests are made of gold and its eggs resemble agates. Pliny believed griffins came from Northern Russia; Aeschylus thought they originated in Ethiopia; and Bullfinch wrote that their native country was India. In its body, the griffin is blessed with the speed, flight, and penetrating vision of the eagle and the strength, courage, and majesty of the lion."

The Griffin reminds me of Ravenclaw, Gyffindor, and Slytherin put together.

Who is Mark Evans?

JK has said no to Mark Evans being related to Harry Potter. In her own word, "Mark Evans is... nobody." She also gives a very interesting reson to why she chose to give Mark the surname "Evans", but for that you will have to go to JK's site. To find this news on JK's site, click the paperclips on her desk, then click the envelope that says "About the Books." The last option on the left side menu will say "FAQ Poll."

Unluckily, this means that my whole theory on Mark Evan's being the Half Blood Prince s worthless, but it was still fun to write. This does leave us with the option of Dean Tomas being the Half Blood Prince as so many of you have posted! :D

Maybe I will post my other theory later.

My Half Blood Prince Theory

I have a theory about who I think is going to be the Half Blood Prince. It doesn't really have much evidence to back it up, but I think it would be interesting if it came true.

Here is my theory:

Mark Evans: Half Blood Prince

As many of us have found out recently, the new title for the sixth Harry Potter book is Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. But, I wonder, who is the “Half Blood Prince”? I think there maybe a possibility that the “Half Blood Prince” is a new character. But who? I’m guessing that it is Mark Evans.

We were introduced to Mark Evans in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but we don’t really know much about him, except for the fact that he was beat-up by Dudley, and that he is an Evan and may be in some way related to Lily Potter.

Thing that are against him being “Half Blood Prince”: Although he maybe related to the Potter’s, he also may not be. Plus, we don’t even know if he is a wizard or a muggle, let alone a prince. We don’t even know much about him.

Thing that give us reason to suspect that he may be the “Half Blood Prince”: For one, he might be an Evan, and since Lily was a half-blood, there maybe reason to suspect that he is also a half blood. Secondly, he is a new character, which would bring an interesting twist to the books, and something that would throw us off our guard. (Maybe JK Rowling is planning on putting a twist in the sixth book so that we become confused and aren’t sure about the outcome of the book.)

Plus, because Mark would be a new character, JK Rowling could change his character into whatever suits the story best, good or bad. Having that freedom would allow JK to not only twist and change the plot of the book, but to add yet another obstacle for Harry.

Think about it, if Mark is related to the Potter’s, and he does join Voldemort, Harry not only has to deal with the fact that Voldemort has another helper, but that it is his cousin/relative. Would Harry’s hero instinct show again?

I know that suspecting that Mark Evan’s could become a dark character, is going way out on a limb, but there is evidence that Mark may have a dark side. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, it says this:

“So, who’ve you been beating up tonight?” Harry said, his grin fading. “Another ten-year old? I know you did Mark Evan’s two night ago-”

Some may over look this and say “Who cares?” Dudley beats up anyone, there isn’t any evidence it that. And yes, it is true that Dudley may have just been beating Harry up for the fun of it, but there may be more.

Maybe, Dudley wasn’t just beating up Mark Evan’s for the fun of it. Maybe, Mark had really done something to Dudley that was cruel and evil. What if the only reason Dudley had beat-up Mark Evan’s was because he was truly enraged by what Mark Evan’s had done.

But this quote also brings up some more questions. How is Mark Evan’s going to go over to the dark side and give Voldemort “valuable information” if he is only eleven-years old? Why would Voldemort even trust a little eleven year old? And, if Mark Evan’s does have a dark side, won’t he be sorted into Slytherin? Why would Harry trust someone from Slytherin? And, how would Mark Evan’s even find out about Voldemort if he is a half-blood?

I think that what will most likely happen is that Voldemort will use Mark as a spy. If I turns out that Mark really is Harry’s relative, and that he really does have a dark side, this may be a possibility. Let say Mark decides to go Voldemort, and tells him that he can get “valuable information” from Harry Potter. By book six, Voldemort will be even more desperate to kill Harry Potter, since he is so desperate, he might just take Mark’s offer, and have him get information from Harry Potter. But why would Voldemort trust an eleven year old? I’m assuming that Voldemort will have Mark prove himself before trusting him with such a big job. Maybe he will have Mark steal something. Then, once Mark has proven himself Voldemort will have Mark will get to know Harry Potter.

Though, we still have another problem, if Mark Evan’s does have a dark side, won’t he be sorted into Slytherin? Why would Harry trust someone from Slytherin? My response to this is that Mark will probably be sorted into Gryffindor. We already know that evil wizards have been sorted into Gryffindor, take Peter Pettigrew as an example. Why wouldn’t the same be true of Mark Evan’s? Harry also showed us that it is your choices that help you get sorted into your house. Couldn’t Mark just as easily chose to be in Gryffindor? And, if Mark did get into Gryffindor, then why wouldn’t Harry trust him?

Yet, even though we have all the answers to this, we still don’t know how Mark would even find out about Voldemort if he’s a half-blood. What is my response? I think it is possible that Mark could know about Voldemort even though he is a half-blood. For someone to be a half-blood they must not only have muggle blood, but wizard blood as well, right? Which means that there would have to be a wizard in their family. Why wouldn’t he, when he found out he was a wizard, ask everyone he knew was a witch/wizard, to tell him everything about how wizards live, dress, eat… And, as the newspapers would have just reported that Voldemort is back, wouldn’t that be mentioned as well? Then, Mark, on his own might decide that Voldemort is who he wants to help. And, that is my answer for why Mark Evans might be the “Half Blood Prince.”

Now, I know this has a bunch of what ifs, and there are a bunch of things that would have to be put into consideration, but I think JK Rowling would love for us all to have had hints to what was going to happen, and yet not notice something as simple as Mark Evan’s. But, even if it is unlikely, it is some good food for thought.

I hope you enjoyed reading my theory, as much as I enjoyed writing it!
