As I was searching the internet I found out that SaveGoF.com started a petition to make the 4th Harry Potter book two movies. They are encouraging people to either sign their petition and/or write Warner Bros. and encourage them to make the 4th movie 2 films.
They even have a pre-written letter that you can print out, sign and send to Warner Bros. So you don't have to worry about wondering what to say...
They feel that if the forth Harry Potter film is made into one film many/most of the important events... will be removed or shortened to a few minutes. Think of how much Warner Bros. has to cram into the "2 and 1/2 hour" movie that is is as of right now. Here is a list of some:
The death of Frank Bryce, Harry's scar hurting, Harry convincing the dursleys to let him go to the Weasleys, the Weasley's picking up harry from the Dursleys, Fred and George being yelled at for trying to take there joke shop tricks, the Quidditch World Cup, the appearance of the Dark Mark, the introduction of the Unforgivable Curses, the selection of the Triwizard Tournament champions, Rita Skeeter and her antics, the First Task, the Yule Ball, the Second Task, the children's visit with Sirius at Hogsmeade, the Pensieve memories, the Third Task, Voldemort's return, the duel and Priori Incantatem, the revelation that Moody is Crouch Jr., and the final scene when the Order of the Phoenix is called back into action.
How are they going to fit all those important things in the Goblet of Fire if it is only 2 and 1/2 hours long?
If you agree with them you can either mail Warner Bros. a letter, mail Warner Bros. the pre-written letter or sign the petition.

As long as the plot is structured carefully they should be able to include all the elements in the novel. Think about Lord of the Rings, the complexity of each novel exceeds the Goblet of Fire (thats not to say that it is better), yet they were able to include all of the necessary elements to make three fantastic movies. The same should be true of this Harry Potter novel. Not to mention that making this novel would delay the shooting of the fifth novel (assuming they make it a movie), further spreading the actual age of the actors and the characters.
Posted by: becca on March 10, 2004 12:07 AMThey cut up the matrix badly by trying to span a story line across two movies. Hopefully they will not make this mistake with Harry Potter.
Posted by: George on September 7, 2003 11:31 PMI am not sure how the 4th book could be 2 movies. An important element of any story is the climax. With the 4th book the climax does not come until the end of the book.
My guess is that they will pair down the story but keep the important clues. I sure hope they keep Moaning Mertyl in the bathroom with Harry as she helps him discover a clue.
